Now that we have Power Spike
females to breed I began another search for an Appaloosa male that was not
related to our females and Power Spike. The only outcrosses I could find
were pure Argentines. They definitely are not related. There
are so few Argentine breeding age males especially Appaloosas that I almost gave
up. Then I searched one more time and found that Dave and Lillian Beck of
Kent Rock Meadows Farm were selling their Argentine Appy male because they
wanted to concentrate on pure Peruvian llamas. They bought Altanero when
he was only three months old and took delivery when he was old enough. So
they have raised him and trained him as we would. He is so gentle and well
mannered that we were able to put him in with our yearling males.
We are extremely happy with Altanero's babies. He has given us intense
appaloosa's and he has improved on both the fiber and the bone of all the
females. At the 2010 Virginia Classic, we showed his three 2009
females in the Argentine class. They took 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the
Juvenile Female class. Shangrila's Carmen took the Grand Champion
Argentine Female, Shangrila's Polka Dots took the Reserve Grand and Shangrila's
Evita took 3rd of the Top Five.
Altanero has been sold. Thank
you Phyllis Wilkerson
